Secluded Byron beaches to explore

With over 30km of pristine beaches, Byron Bay has many spots for a quick dip, surf, or leisurely day on the sand. If you are after a more secluded experience away from Main Beach, here are our top picks.

Seven Mile Beach

As the name suggests, this is a long stretch of coastline south of Broken Head extending towards Lennox Head. It is an expansive sweep of rugged beach bordered by a coastal wilderness that feels somewhat untamed and primitive. Untouched by development, it is the perfect place to surf a serious wave solo, ride horses on pristine sands or join the seasoned fisherman beach fishing along the shore.

Little Wategos

At the end of the Cape, Little Wategos is a great rock fishing spot. Inaccessible by car (you must walk over the path from Wategos or down from the lighthouse precinct) Little Wategos is overlooked by the lighthouse and most easterly point. A lovely, sheltered spot for sunbathing and swimming.

Brays Beach

Bray's Beach, named after one of the original Arakwal families living in the area, is approximately 250 metres long and is backed by a rear cobble beach. It can only be accessed along a dirt track south of Kings.

Whites Beach

A hidden gem that is a bit tricky to get to but worth the effort. Situated at the southern end of Broken Head, Whites Beach is only accessible by a dirt road and then a 15-minute walk along a track through the littoral rainforest over the headland. If you are not afraid of a little adventure, then Whites is a great alternative to the busier town beaches, particularly in the summer months. Be prepared for some steep hiking and take a packed lunch!

Boulders Beach

A short walk from a small parking lot leads to this rocky beach with dark sand & lush cliffs.
